Star India batsman Virat Kohli will return to T20Is after 14 months in the forthcoming India against Afghanistan series. Which begins on Thursday, January 11 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Notably, Kohli last competed in the T20 World Cup 2022, where India were eliminated from the semi-finals after a humiliating ten-wicket defeat to England.
However, due to personal issues, the 35-year-old will miss the first game of the series, but will return for the final two. Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer turn analyst, claim ahead of Kohli’s comeback to the shortest format of international cricket that he should begin the batting in T20s because that is where he excels.
“In my opinion, Kohli performs best in T20s when he opens the innings and bats in the powerplay overs. ” If you don’t offer him the option, he may become a little slow against spinners, which is not unusual. That’s because it’s happened frequently. So, will Kohli start? I do not think so. I believe one of Yashasvi (Jaiswal) or Shubman Gill will play. Gill is a senior player, thus he may play whereas Yashasvi will have to sit out. It will not be fair, yet such an outcome is possible. “I see Kohli batting at number three,” Chopra told JioCinema.
Kohli, who opens the batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, has had enormous success with the bat. In the previous edition of the competition, in 2023, he finished as the season’s fourth-highest run scorer with an average of 53.25 and a strike rate of 139.82, with two hundreds and six fifties to his record.

Virat Kohli is the most prolific batter in T20Is
The Delhi-born batsman is the most prolific batter in both T20 Internationals and the T20 World Cup. Kohli has 4008 runs in T20Is from 107 innings at an average of 52.73, with one hundred and seven fifties. On the other side, he has 1141 runs in the T20 World Cup from 25 innings at an average of 81.50 and a strike rate of 131.30, including 14 half-centuries.
With the T20 World Cup 2024 just five months away, the batting master will seek to get himself in fine form by scoring a lot of runs against Afghanistan.
