Andre Borovec will coach Australia in the T20I series against India. Australia’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, will return home to relax after the ODI World Cup in 2023.

Australia are going to stay back in India after the completion of the ODI World Cup 2023 to play a five-match T20I series against the Men in Blue.

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald will not stay with the team during the T20I series against India as he has been rested. In his absence, assistant coach Andre Borovec will be in charge of the side. This will be the first time Borovec will charge of the senior team. Five players, who are part of Australia’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad – Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh. Cameron Green also rested for the T20Is and the team will be led by experienced wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade.

McDonald is also taking a rest until the Test season begins on December 14 against Pakistan in Perth. Prior to the World Cup, he also sideline from the T20I series against South Africa. The team was led by batting coach Michael Di Venuto at the time. However, the 49-year-old sideline from the T20Is against India, giving Borovec the opportunity to coach the senior squad.

It’s worth noting that Borovec, 45, coached McDonald at a Victorian grade cricket team named Geelong. The former first joined Australia’s coaching staff in 2021 for white-ball travels to the Caribbean and Bangladesh. He also accompanied Australia on their 2022 visit of Pakistan. He hired as a full-time assistant coach when McDonald took over as head coach in May 2022.

Lachlan Stevens, former Western Australia and Victoria coach and current Cricket Australia head of development, will travel to India to assist Borovec.

Australia look to win record-extending sixth World Cup title

The Australian coaching staff will not be considering the India series at this time. They are in the semi-finals for the ninth time and will face South Africa on Thursday, November 16 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

So far, the Men in Yellow have won five ODI World Cups, while no other side has won more than two. The team captained by Pat Cummins is on a seven-match winning streak and has all the elements to go the distance.
