Aakash Chopra opens up on Steve Smith subpar form at World Cup 2023. “Smith has yet to score a run.” “Whether or not runs come from his bat will be interesting,” Aakash Chopra said.
Australia’s performance in the present ODI World Cup has been marked by ups and downs. Australia had a disastrous start to the competition, failing to win in their first two games, losing to India and South Africa.
However, the Men in Yellow won their next two games to return to the top four in the points standings. As the competition proceeds, one of the team’s main concerns will be the form of veteran batter Steve Smith. Smith appeared to be in the zone in the first game against India, but he has failed to deliver since.
Speaking of the same, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra opined that Smith’s form could be a cause of concern for the Aussies, and his performances could be key for them if they are looking to progress further into the tournament.
“Australia have won two matches, so they have got the momentum now. It is a small ground and if they bat first, they will score 350 again. Steve Smith hasn’t scored runs. It will be interesting whether runs come from his bat or not because he has been a point of concern,” Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Furthermore, Aakash Chopra also talked of the performances of the Australian middle order. Taking the names of Marnus Labuschagne and Glenn Maxwell, Chopra stated that both batters are yet to make a significant contribution with the bat.
“Marnus Labuschagne – he too hasn’t given any great performance thus far. Maxwell with the bat – he has been totally missing thus far. So these are a few points of concern which they would want to address,” Chopra said.
