Matthew Hayden wants Cameron Green to start the ODI World Cup. “To me, they have got a front anchor out and a back anchor out, and the innings go nowhere because they are both well and truly stable. ” Matthew Hayden said in a statement.
The team lead by Pat Cummins Australia is currently battling in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. In three games so far in the tournament, the team has only won one and lost the other two. Finding themselves at the bottom of the standings and wanting to regain their form. The team will be eager to make some adjustments that will assist them regain their form.
Former Australian hitter Matthew Hayden proposed the adjustments. Among other things, Hayden stated that partnering Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith in the batting order isn’t working for the Men in Yellow.
“I don’t think it does, and I don’t think they’ll change anything. ” “They have a front anchor out and a back anchor out, and the innings go nowhere because they are both very stable. ” Matthew Hayden told ESPNcricinfo.
“It’s fine to have one stabiliser; I think it’s really important to have a mind like Steve Smith at the top of the order when you start to set totals or chase totals. You need that computer mind, but when you have two of them in a row I think it creates pressure through the top six so I’d make a change there. ” He went on to say.

Give him a licence, Cam Green at the top: Hayden
Hayden also mentioned standout all-rounder Cameron Green. Green, according to the 51-year-old, could be given a chance as Australia’s opening batter. Using the all-rounder’s time with the Mumbai Indians as an example, Hayden believes that allowing Green to open may provide him with much-needed flexibility.
“Give him a licence, Cam Green at the top; to me, he’s a kid who hasn’t necessarily found his tempo in any format of the game. But what we saw here during the IPL is that the Mumbai Indians just sent him out and said, kid, just smash it. ” Hayden went on to say.
“He has massive levers and excellent scoring abilities. ” He’s not so adept at playing spin through the middle, but by that point, if he’s blast Pakistan for 70 or 80 runs, he’s done his job. ” He added.
