Rohit Sharma breaks the global record for most sixes in international cricket. In the seventh over of the innings, Rohit smashed a maximum against Naveen ul Haq.
On Wednesday, October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, India captain Rohit Sharma set a new record during Match 9 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Afghanistan. The opening batter batted in fifth gear, unleashing his beast mode on the Afghan bowlers.
Rohit became the joint-fastest batsman in ODI World Cup history to achieve 1000 runs in 19 innings. Before him, Australian opener David Warner accomplished the same feat against India. He etched his mark in the record books even more by dragging Naveen ul Haq over deep square leg for a maximum. Rohit eclipsed Chris Gayle’s 553 international sixes to take the top spot on the list. Rohit currently has 556 sixes in 473 innings in international cricket.

The Indian opener went on to bat a brilliant 131 off 84 balls, smacking 16 fours and five sixes. During his innings, he also set the record for the fastest century by an Indian hitter in the ODI World Cup. Achieving the milestone in just 63 balls. Rohit follow in the footsteps of Virender Sehwag, who accomplished the record in 81 balls against Bermuda in the 2007 World Cup.
Rohit Sharma registers most hundreds in ODI World Cup history
The 36-year-old also became the batter with the most hundreds in the history of the ODI World Cup. Surpassing the three-figure mark for the seventh time in the tournament’s history, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of six hundreds.
Furthermore, Rohit moved up to third place in the list of most ODI hundreds with his 31st century. Passing Ricky Ponting, who has 30 centuries to his name. India went on to win the match by eight wickets after chasing down the goal of 273 in just 35 overs, thanks to his magnificent effort. The Indian skipper was rightfully named Player of the Match after assisting India to their second victory of the competition.
