Ellyse Perry masters the balancing act while looking ahead to the Australian summer. Perry is optimistic about the sport’s chances of returning to the Olympics.
Following her comeback, Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry is entirely focus on the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies. After suffering a knee injury at the end of her side’s one-day tour of Ireland in July 2023. The 32-year-old made her return to Melbourne on Tuesday and began bowling for the first time.
Perry has indicated that she will not bowl and will instead bat in the final games against the West Indies. She is hopeful that she will be fully recover and able to contribute to her team for the remainder of the summer.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with our bowling coach, Scott Prestwidge. We were doing some really great stuff in the nets over in England, so it was a bit of a bummer to have to cut that over the last couple of months to rehab my knee.” It was a lot of fun to hang out back there with Scottie today. “I’m looking forward to the rest of the summer and hopefully being able to contribute with the ball. ”

Cricket is set to make its Olympic debut in 2028, after a 128-year absence. Perry is optimistic about the sport’s chances of returning to the Olympics, saying it would be as large as any ICC World Cup after competing in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year.
“I’d love to still be contributing and hanging out with the group if I’m still enjoying it and if I’m good enough to contribute, but I probably haven’t set my sights on anything just yet (so) we’ll see.” I’m sure it’ll be tremendously essential to every club involved… it’s an incredible announcement for the sport, a terrific new chance, and an incredible competition. To be a part of that – we recently had the experience with the Comm Games, which was a fantastic event to be a part of,” she continued.
