After a 128-year wait, cricket will be included in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. During the event, the game will be played under T20I format.
Cricket is a game that has produced some of the most iconic moments in sporting history. However, due to its five-day duration, it was never able to secure a long-term status as an official medal event for the world’s largest sports gathering. However, as time passed and the 20-over format arose, modern-day cricket was born. Cricket, in its shortest format, may return to The Olympics in 2028, when the tournament will be staged in Los Angeles, California.
Notably, the last time cricket play at the Olympics was in 1900 in Paris, when the British delegation won gold. The return of cricket to this stage is undoubtedly significant, as it is one of the most watched athletic events in the world. Notably, the International Cricket Council (ICC), the game’s governing body, worked hard to enlist the sport and submit it to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The ICC Chairman Greg Barclay voiced his pleasure, calling it a’significant landmark’ in the game’s long history.
“We are overjoyed that the LA28 has recommended that cricket be included in the Olympics. ” While this is not the final decision. It is an important step toward seeing cricket at the Olympics for the first time in over a century. ” Barclay cited as saying by the ICC.
Barclay also expressed gratitude to the LA28 body for their support and belief in the game’s inclusion in the tournament.
“I’d like to thank LA28 for their support during the new sport evaluation process over last two years. We look forward to the final decision being taken at the IOC Session. In India, during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next week. ” He said in a statement.
Cricket was recently included to the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Where the Indian team, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, defeated Afghanistan to win the gold medal.
