Following the loss, there were various comments over the state of the playing surface at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. The outfield designated as sandy, putting the players at risk of injury.
Speaking of which, Afghanistan’s head coach, Jonathan Trott. Came out to discuss the subject of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who was fortunate to escape injury after diving for the ball.
Trott made it plain that he was not blaming the surface for Afghanistan’s defeat and poor performance, but that it is something that officials should investigate.

Trott also used Devon Conway as an example, who survived a similar predicament in the season opener of the ODI World Cup 2023 against England. While he reiterated that he is not blaming the loss on the sandy outfield, he did ask the organizers to look into it.
“Yes, he should not have plunged with his knee. However, we saw Devon Conway from New Zealand early on the other night [in Ahmedabad], so it’s something for them [the organizers] to consider. “I’m not blaming anyone for that, but it’s something to keep an eye on in the future,” Trott said.
