Naveen ul Haq will retire from ODIs after the 2023 World Cup to focus on his T20I career. Naveen-ul-Haq has only played seven One-Day Internationals for Afghanistan, taking 14 wickets.
Afghanistan’s star bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has stated that he will retire from one-day internationals after the World Cup in India in 2023. The 24-year-old shared the news on his social media account. Naveen stated that he is making the decision to extend his career in T20Is and focus more on the game’s shortest format.

Due to an injury, the young pacer was unable to compete in the just finished Asia Cup. In fact, he was named to the World Cup roster only a few days before the team left. It is also worth noting that the event will mark his return to one-day internationals after a two-year absence.
“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country would like to announce my retirement from ODI format at end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in t20 cricket for my country it hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career had to take this tough decision would like to thank @afghanistancricketboard And all my fans for their support and unwavering love 🇦🇫♥️,” Naveen posted to Instagram.
In terms of ODI records, the right-arm bowler has represented Afghanistan in seven matches so far, taking 14 wickets at an average of 25.43 and an economy rate of 5.79. His finest bowling performance came when he took four wickets while allowing 42 runs.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan will face Bangladesh in their opening game of the quadrennial event on Saturday, October 7 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Before the competition, the Afghan team will play two warm-up games against South Africa and Sri Lanka.
