This decision, revealed by captain Niroshan Dickwella and head coach Simon Helmot, has sparked debate among cricket fans.
Babar Azam, recognized as one of the modern-day greats, demonstrated his class with a century in a recent high-pressure chase, becoming only the second player to score at least 10 T20 centuries.
Babar had to choose between the Lanka Premiere League and the Global T20 League. He ultimately selected to play in the LPL 2023 because the World Cup will be held in Asian conditions.
