Aakash Chopra discusses Rohit Sharma’s future as India’s Test captain. “There is no doubt that Rohit is a good captain, but will the future be the same?” Chopra asked.
India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, heavily chastise after losing to Australia in the World Test Championship finals. Many cricketing giants, including Sachin Tendulkar, questioned his plan of dropping Ravichandran Ashwin in the final, and his decision to bowl first after winning the toss also backfired. However, according to reports, the BCCI is likely to keep him in Test cricket, although Aakash Chopra is unsure whether Rohit can continue as Test captain till the next WTC final.
Chopra praised Rohit Sharma’s batting and captaincy abilities. However, he caution the Mumbai cricketer that age is not on his side. Meanwhile, Chopra believes that if the opener truly wants to play Test cricket, he can, but he also believes that six Test series will be too much for Rohit.
“There is no doubt that Rohit is a good captain. There is no doubt that Rohit is a good Test batter, but will the future remain like this only. – I am not 100% certain because you have reached the final in the last two cycles but haven’t won even once. Age is not on his side, this is the reality,” Chopra said in a video posted to his YouTube channel.
“If you look at the next two years and another WTC cycle – 2025, Rohit Sharma could still be playing Test cricket if he really wants to.” Six seasons is a long time,” he remarked.

Given the current state of Indian cricket, I don’t think you’ll be able to take many breaks: Chopra
The former cricketer believes that skipper Rohit Sharma will not be permitted to take too many rests in the coming months because India is in a precarious position. He believes the selectors would have to make a decision since he is unsure if Rohit can play for long in the longest format of the game.
“Given the current state of Indian cricket, I don’t think you’ll be able to take many breaks.” You wish to play three formats in this situation, but will you be able to accomplish so? Can the selectors start thinking about the next WTC final by the end of 2023, when you return from South Africa? One year remains. Five Test matches will be played against England. Should they seek for a change if you have to go to Australia? “This is going to be interesting,” Chopra said.
