The Delhi Capitals, managed by David Warner, had a disastrous season in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The club failed to advance to the knockout stages of the competition and had a forgettable season, winning only five games and losing nine, finishing ninth in the table with 10 points in 14 games.

The effort of Indian all-rounder Axar Patel was one of the few bright spots for Delhi
Throughout the campaign, the 29-year-old was spectacular with both the bat and the ball, scoring 283 runs and taking 11 wickets. Despite coming in at the bottom of the batting order, Axar was one of Delhi’s leading run scorers.
After witnessing his outstanding performances, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra came up to criticize the Delhi Capitals’ management for underutilizing the all-rounder. He mention certain players who were underutilize in the IPL 2023, and Axar’s name was near the top of the list. Chopra also reflected on the performances that Axar might have put up if he had been led by Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni.
“The first player who comes to mind, despite still performing well. His name used to be on the list of the most valuable players.” Imagine if this player had been on MS Dhoni’s team; he may have been the finest player in this tournament; his name is Axar Patel. “He wasn’t getting to bat,” Aakash Chopra said on JioCinema’s ‘AakashVani’ show.
“You wonder who made the decisions. Your captain is David Warner, and your team includes Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly, Shane Watson, James Hopes, Ajit Agarkar, and Pravin Amre. Despite having such a vast think-tank, you couldn’t find out how to get the most out of this guy,” he continued.
