You have to give him credit for it, and he wants to prove that via his performances,” Gayle said.

Gayle reminisces the season when he overtook Virat to claim Orange Cap

Gayle went on to recount another amusing occurrence involving Kohli during his stint with the team, this time while the latter was dominating the charts for the Orange Cap.

“One thing I recall, just to go back a little bit, Virat was the Orange Cap bearer one season.” I was getting runs, but he was the person who was scoring a lot of runs at the time. Afterwards, in two or three games, whatever the case may be, I was awarded the Orange Cap. ‘Man, this guy simply walked in, bang bang bang, and became the Orange Cap holder?’ he said. “That was simply a funny moment that I’ll remember forever,” he continued.

The pair had multiple record-breaking partnerships, the most notable of which being an unbeaten 204 runs against the Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) in 2012. The three of Kohli, Gayle, and de Villiers will be seen at the much-anticipated ‘RCB Unbox’ event on March 26 in Bangalore.
