DC lost its previous match against LSG by just 6 runs, a margin that flatters its performance a bit in our opinion. Some poor choices and decisions during the batting stint had more or less ended its chase long before some free boundaries were got.
DC has failed to win two consecutive matches so far in IPL 2022 and must find a way to get rid of its inconsistency. Every single match that it has won so far has Kuldeep Yadav as the man of the match and so his importance to this DC side cannot be underestimated.
As a bowling unit, DC has some excellent options but not enough depth. Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, and even Axar Patel have been excellent but Chetan Sakariya, Lalit Yadav, and Shardul Thakur are just not dependable enough. It was a surprise to see Khaleel Ahmed being left out after a good start and he may get a run in the team once more.
The batting lineup for DC has started to look a lot better now than Rovman Powell is in form. He, Axar Patel, and Shardul Thakur form a very good lower order that can contribute with some runs regularly. The top order is also loaded on paper with Shaw, Warner, and Marsh in the top-3 followed by Pant and Lalit Yadav.
DC’s team is lacking a bit of spark but it does seem to have the parts to pull off a win in this match.
SRH lost two matches at the start, won its next five matches, and now has lost two on the trot once more. It is in the fourth position on the standings and also has a healthy net run rate but would like to get another win to just get back on track.
All of the excitement around SRH has been down its bowling lineup. Umran Malik is making waves around the world with his pace and seems to have improved as a bowler as well. He now has the most wickets for an uncapped bowler in IPL history.
With Bhuveneshwar Kumar and T Nataraj also finding their rhythm and the impressive Marco Jansen for support, SRH’s seam bowling stocks are undoubtedly superior to DC. The problem is with their spin-bowling option. Washington Sundar is injured and so they will have to go back to their left-arm spinner Jagadeesh Suchith or include the leggie, Shreyas Gopal.
This spin bowling option could be a weak link that DC can exploit.

Delhi Capitals got off to a flying start to the tournament and looked to be on course for the most part before stuttering at the end of the league stage. As apparent from their recent record, the Capitals are undoubtedly far from their best.
The Capitals have won just five matches out of their last six and have a lot of standing questions. Their opening pair hasn’t scored runs for ages now as Prithvi Shaw never really seems settled in the middle. While Shikhar Dhawan has scored heaps of runs, he has been a bit too inconsistent in the last few matches. The Capitals will take heart from the way Ajinkya Rahane performed against RCB, but overall the Capitals’ top-order needs a major overhaul.
While making too many changes is never really advisable in high-pressure games, we might see Marcus Stoinis being promoted up the order. Prithvi Shaw has been a walking wicket and while he can play the slam, bang, and wallop brand of cricket, his inconsistency is putting too much pressure on his team’s middle-order.
With the likes of Pant and Stoinis not firing of-late, the Capitals seem to be a kind of side that depends heavily on its bowlers. Without Shimron Hetmyer, they lack someone who can smash the bowlers right from the word go and, therefore, they are more suited for the middling totals, which is unlike the totals we have seen in Abu Dhabi of late.
Delhi’s batting may look out of sorts given their recent performances, their bowling still seems to be pretty lethal. Kagiso Rabada may have failed in a couple of recent matches, but he is more than capable to turn around the match on its head. Besides, Rabada’s performance in the tournament, on the whole, has been top-notch. With Anrich Nortje doing well too, Delhi’s pace attack looks sorted. Even with Ashwin’s availability under the clouds, Delhi seem well equipped with spinners.
All in all, Delhi Capitals have a lot of work to do before they get out to challenge Sunrisers Hyderabad. There are apparent issues with their batting lineup and if they can resolve those, Delhi certainly have a bowling attack that can win them matches.
Sunrisers Hyderabad found their perfect eleven a bit late, but they’d take in given the form they’ve been in of late. Exactly opposite to Delhi Capitals, the Sunrisers Hyderabad are coming off four back to back wins and will be brimming with confidence. They defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the eliminator and will be looking to get an entry into the finale by winning the upcoming contest as well.
Ever since getting their combination right, only in the last match did Sunrisers Hyderabad appear to be a little vulnerable with the bat as Wridhimann Saha had to sit out of the last match. Shreevats Goswami didn’t really get a chance to make a mark as he was dismissed pretty early in the innings. Unless he is unfit, we expect Saha to jump back into the playing eleven.
Also, the inclusion of Jason Holder has added much-needed depth to the Sunrisers Hyderbad’s batting order that earlier seemed to be wafer-thin after Kane Williamson. With David Warner, Manish Pandey, and Kane Williamson among the top-order, Sunrisers’ batting looks settled. Furthermore, they have good fire-power available in the lower-middle order should it get to that.
Even though it’s their batting that has shown massive improvement of late, it’s actually their bowling that has won them matches. Sandeep Sharma has been pretty tight with his lines and lengths in the powerplay overs, making it difficult to hit his swinging deliveries. Plus, with Jason Holder available, the Sunrisers now have someone experienced at the top and that has limited the damage caused by Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s absence.
The things that have been working for the Sunrisers is that they have five full-time bowlers available who all can bowl in tight channels. Hitting Rashid Khan has proved to be almost impossible in the tournament thus far and is likely to be the case in the upcoming match as well. After getting off to a fortunate start, Delhi Capitals exhibited why they could be a threat in this edition of the tournament as they handed Chennai Super Kings a deflating defeat. Almost everything seemed to be falling well into the right places for the Capitals as their batting and bowling both worked like clockwork against the Super Kings.
The Capitals have now won two wins in two matches and they already appear to be a solid team on paper. Shreyas Iyer was exceedingly good as a captain against CSK and his move to keep Rabada’s three overs for the death immensely helped their cause. Coming in for Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra filled in beautifully, giving away just 23 runs in his four overs. Their other bowlers played their part to perfection too as none of there was no single bowler on the day that the Capitals were able to target.
Arguably the biggest improvement that the Capitals showed compared with the one in their first match is the contribution by their top-order. Prithvi Shaw appeared to have learned from his mistake and played risk-free shots that fetched him runs at a pretty brisk pace. He eventually finished with a personal score of 64, which included nine fours and a six. Delhi Capitals got off to a rather sedate start, but once Dhawan and Shaw got set, it was all crash, bang, and wallop.
Delhi Capitals’ improvisation was seen in their leadership too as instead of following their regular batting lineup, Rishabh Pant came in to take advantage of the superb opening partnership. Iyer and Pant both played reasonably well as Delhi eventually finished with a total of 175. After having a poor first game, Shimron Hetmyer didn’t get a chance to bat and didn’t have a great night in the field as well. Given that Delhi Capitals have an array of hard-hitting batsmen available, Hetmyer might not have a long rope to make a name for himself.
Going by Delhi’s performance in the first two matches, it is really hard to find a flaw in the way they have done. They have a superb fast bowling attack with Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje both bowling in fine rhythm. Avesh Khan was their only weak link in the last game as he gave away 42 runs off his four overs. They do have the services of Marcus Stoinis, who didn’t bowl in the last match, but is more than capable with the ball. All in all, Delhi Capitals have been one of the better sides of the tournament so far and it really won’t be surprising if they continue to rack up wins after wins in their upcoming fixtures.
Fortune just doesn’t seem to be favoring the Sunrisers at the moment. They snatched a loss from the jaws of defeat in their opening match and went on to exhibit a subpar performance with the bat in their second encounter. Sunrisers Hyderabad is the only team that is still to get off the mark as far as the wins column is concerned.
Sunrisers Hyderabad seems to be struggling with the problem that a lot of teams struggle in T20 Cricket. With no reliable batsman available outside of the top-three, Sunrisers are too top-heavy and are likely to always struggle to close their innings with a flourish, unless, of course, they make changes to their eleven. Injury to Mitchell Marsh hasn’t helped their case either and now find themselves in all sorts of trouble.
Considering that Mohammad Nabi was pretty good against Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad now have the problem of finding the right combination of their overseas players. Jason Holder still hasn’t completed his six-day mandatory quarantine and is unexpected to feature against the Capitals. There have been discussions going around to include Kane Williamson in the playing eleven and given the way Sunrisers just stumbled their way once Warner was dismissed, we might see Williamson in the playing eleven sooner rather than later. Another tactical change that Hyderabad might make is to send Mohammad Nabi at two-drop, but that, too, would expose their weak lower middle-order to class bowling of Delhi Capitals.
One area where Sunrisers have always been strong is bowling. With Mitchell Marsh injured, their pace attack now appears to be heavily over-reliant on Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who the other teams are now preferring to just playoff. Khaleel Ahmed and T Natarajan are inexperienced and can be erratic under pressure. The surfaces here in UAE are assisting spinners more than they are assisting pacers and for that reason having Mohammad Nabi to complement Rashid Khan might be the way to go for them in the upcoming match. In case they decide to leave Nabi out, over-reliance on Rashid Khan could prove to be costly.
With the dearth of experienced Indian batsmen in the lower middle-order, Sunrisers Hyderabad have a huge problem to solve. Vijay Shankar’s injury didn’t help their cause either and the Sunrisers will be desperately hoping for Shankar to get fit.
