Pat Cummins, Australia’s official red-ball captain, had to repeatedly leave the field while the West indies were batting in their opening innings due to quadriceps soreness. Smith was consequently seen as the team’s leader. The captain experienced some quadriceps pain, Cricket Australia revealed before the fourth day of play began.
“Pat Cummins is suffering from some modest right sided quadricep pain,”
Cricket Australia said.
It’s unknown whether Cummins will return to bowl the rest of the game. The medical team will assess the injury and determine whether the pace spearhead can continue or must rest indefinitely.

Marnus Labuschagne breaks two century
Australia has set a goal of 498 for the visitors to reach in the game. Marnus Labuschagne added to his total of centuries after hitting an unbeaten 104 in the second innings. The team’s total at the time of Cummins’ declaration was 598 runs thanks to the hitter’s 204 runs in the first inning and Steve Smith’s 200.
Labuschagne was very methodical in his approach during Australia’s first innings, carefully choosing deliveries and effortlessly threading gaps. In the second inning, he had a lot more freedom to bat, looked unstoppable, and played the situation appropriately.
The visitors responded by scoring 283 runs in the first inning, and they are now pursuing 498 runs in the second. Kraigg Brathwaite was the 200th Test wicket for the West indies, and Cummins claimed him during the team’s opening batting innings.
