Afghanistan been confirm as one of the countries who will qualify automatically for next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup. After rain fell heavily during the second ODI versus Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Stadium. The visitors were all-out for 228 after electing to bat first, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring 68 off 73 balls to lead the side.

Sri Lanka just play 2.4 overs of the run chase when heavy rain began to fall. The game was finally call off owing to the relentless rains. Afghanistan had held a 1-0 lead after winning the first ODI and cannot afford to lose the series now.

Sri Lanka is on the verge of losing a direct qualification opportunity.
Sri Lanka is now rank 10th in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League standings with 67 points. They just need a couple more games to secure an automatic qualifying berth. West Indies are ninth in the standings with 88 points. Therefore Sri Lanka sorely needs a win in the last ODI against Afghanistan to go closer to West Indies’ total.
The last ODI between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan is planned on November 30 at the Pallekele Stadium, and it is a must-win game for the host team. South Africa’s prospects of directly qualifying for the 2023 World Cup are also jeopardized, since the team is now ranked 11th on the Super League rankings.
