The fight for top position on the WBBL ladder is likely to go down to the brink after the Brisbane Heat defeated the Adelaide Strikers by two runs in a concluding battle.
Strikers were 8 for 69 in the 12th over, requiring 118 to win under the DLS technique, in response to Heat’s 6 for 114 from 16 overs in such a rain-affected encounter in Adelaide on Monday.
Laura Wolvaardt (45 off 38 balls) and Megan Schutt (18no off 12 balls) drew the Strikers back into the game when they needed 49 runs from 26 balls.

The Heat beat the Strikers
With only one wicket in hand, they needed 10 runs off the last over, which would be bowled by spinner Amelia Kerr. With No. 11 Darcie Brown facing up, the equation was reduced to three runs required off the final ball.
Brown, who had never scored a run in a WBBL game, rushed Kerr and smashed the spinner down the ground with a powerful swing. Grace Harris, though, caught her four metres within the line, sparking loud jubilation.
The triumph moved the Heat within one point of the ladder-leading Sydney Sixers, who had played one game fewer. The Hurricanes are four points behind the Sixers in third place, but they have one game in hand on the Sixers and two games in hand on the Heat.
Strikers are still in fifth place, with only two games remaining in their season.
