Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were chastised for their sluggish scoring rate at the recent Asia Cup.
Former Pakistani bowler Aaqib Javed chastised the selection committee for sticking with the starting duo for the 2018 T20 World Cup despite the Asia Cup catastrophe.
“Our sole attitude is to stick with and rely on these two openers.” They work, but where do they work? When your score is between 150 and 160. When we play Karachi Kings and the total is 180 or over, we never sought or hoped to pull Babar Azam out early. He bats at his own speed, and the needed run rate continues to rise. Mohammad Rizwan fared well in the PSL as well, but when these two bat together, you see comparable results from them,” the former World Cup-winning bowler told Pak.TV.
The Pakistani captain talked to the press before of the England series and responded to the former pacer’s criticism by saying that the squad does not listen to outsiders. He stated that every player goes through tough times in their careers, but that this does not justify personal assaults from experts and former cricketers.
“It’s all right if he feels that way. Everyone has an opinion, and I believe it is best if we consider Pakistan’s viewpoint. He may have an opinion, but we do not listen to him. We don’t discuss outside conversations within the team. “Every player has been through difficult times in their careers, therefore there should be no personal assaults,” Babar Azam told the press on Tuesday.
