Andre Adams’ advice to struggling Kane Williamson. Kane Williamson has struggled to regain form in international cricket over the last year.
Former New Zealand cricketer Andre Adams has suggested that Kane Williamson simply hand over the captaincy to someone else in order to regain his form and focus on his batting. The right-hander has played in only a handful of games since the T20 World Cup 2021, and his elbow injury hasn’t helped matters. The 32-year-old has now returned for the Australia One-Day Internationals, where he has yet to find his rhythm, scoring 45 and 17.
Kane Williamson is an important cog in the New Zealand setup and is currently the all-format captain, which has put him under a lot of pressure. While many cricketers have begun to shift their focus from one format to another, Adams suggests that Williamson consider doing the same.

Kane has been going through a rough patch for the last 12 to 18 months: Andre Adams
Williamson, according to Adams, has not contributed much with the bat to the team in the last year or so. He added that playing all three formats is a good choice, but he also emphasized the importance of Williamson focusing on batting rather than just captaincy.
“He hasn’t scored as many runs as you’d expect — he’s been going through a rough patch for the last 12 to 18 months.” With family and children, everything has changed in the last few years. It shifts your perspective slightly. It’s good to see him back… (but) perspective shifts with age. “When you’re young, you can do all three formats and travel the world,” Adams told Newstalk ZB’s Jason Pine.
“Perhaps it’s better to have a new captain and let Kane (Williamson) bat — I don’t think Kane has an ego in that regard, and he’ll just do what’s best for the team,” he added.
