England Test captain Ben Stokes is one of the most in-demand players in the world. Everyone knows what he is capable of on his day. Which is why he has consistently attracted high bids whenever he has entered the IPL auction. Stokes, on the other hand, has decided to skip the IPL 2022 in order to focus on his workload and give his all for England. Last year, the left-handed batter played just one game for the Rajasthan Royals before being injured. Later in 2021, he took a break from cricket to focus on his mental health.
Stokes has now admitted that his decision to play in overseas leagues. Will be based on the international cricket schedule, with Test cricket taking precedence.
“As England cricketers, our schedule is jam-packed, and we seem to be playing all year. I believe our summer is everyone’s winter, and when our winter arrives, it is everyone’s summer. People are either coming here to play or we are touring to play cricket. It’s a matter of looking at schedules and anticipating what’s coming up. But, as I’ve stated repeatedly, Test cricket is at the forefront of my mind. All of my time decisions will be based on Test matches. As captain, it is my responsibility to do so “said Stokes during a select media call organized by Prime Video, which will be streaming Stokes’ documentary ‘Ben Stokes: The Untold Story’. “So, yeah, my commitment outside of international cricket will be based on our schedule and what international cricket we have coming up, but you know, I’ve been playing in the IPL for four years. Every time I’ve been there, I’ve had a great time. It is an incredible competition to be a part of, not only for the spectacle of the IPL, but also for the opportunity to work alongside some of the best players and coaches in the world. It’s an incredible experience to be a part of, but as I mentioned, there’s a schedule to consider around the IPL window “He continued.
“People who came to watch us play would have enjoyed every day of those matches, and that is something I have tried to incorporate, to alleviate the pressures of international cricket.” When thinking about pressure, it’s easy to forget that, at the end of the day, we’re in the entertainment business. People come to see us play because we are at the pinnacle of our sport. Sport is also entertainment. Go out and entertain people for five days for every session you have in a day. If we play good cricket, we have a good chance of winning; if we play bad cricket, we will lose. “It’s pretty simple, but just go out there, enjoy yourself, and have fun,” he concluded.
