Venkatesh Iyer under pressure in domestic, international, and IPL games. ‘In cricket, you either adapt or perish,’ Venkatesh Iyer said.
This month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for the 2022-23 Indian domestic season. Venkatesh Iyer of Madhya Pradesh believes that the pressure at each level is the same for him. He is not a member of the current Indian national team and last played in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Dharamshala in February 2022.
The 27-year-old bowling all-rounder attracted attention during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season. For his explosive innings for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). His batting exploits earned him a contract extension with KKR for the 2022 season as well as a spot on the Indian national team. He has played nine T20Is and two ODIs so far. But has yet to make a significant impact to cement his place in white-ball teams. Venkatesh also struggled in the IPL 2022 season, scoring only 182 runs and taking no wickets in 12 matches.
“Because of the level of competition, the pressure is the same at all levels” (domestic, IPL, and international). The time it takes you to adapt to the pressure of each level is most likely different. But I consider all levels to be the same, and you just have to go out there and execute the skills you’ve been working on for the past 10-15 years,” Venkatesh Iyer said in an interview with Sportskeeda.

In domestic cricket, Venkatesh has already demonstrated his versatility and produced impressive numbers. However, he must do more to be a regular member of the Indian national team. Hardik Pandya made a successful comeback from injury and has established himself as an important member of the white-ball team. Venkatesh may take inspiration from Hardik ahead of Indian domestic tournaments and fight to reclaim his spot on the Indian national team.
“See, I believe that in cricket, you either adapt or perish.” Because opportunities are limited and talent is abundant, it is an honor to be a part of such a large pool of talent. As a result, you must adapt to fit into the scenario or risk being pushed behind the line. So I always try to help the team in any way I can, whether it’s opening the innings, batting in the middle order, or bowling a couple of overs,” Venkatesh added.
