The Asian Cricket Council announced the schedule for the upcoming Asia Cup on Tuesday, which will begin on August 27. Previously, it was announce that Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Due to the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka, the tournament was relocated. The defending champions, India, will play archrivals Pakistan in their first match on August 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Meanwhile, on August 27, Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan in the tournament’s opening match, while the final will be played on September 11. The United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Singapore, and Hong Kong will compete in a qualifier for the sixth and final spot in Asia Cup 2022.
The six teams will be divided into two groups of three for the main tournament.
India is in Group A with Pakistan, while the qualifier will take the final spot.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka will compete in Group A for a spot in the Super 4.
The Asia Cup will be played in T20 format this year.
