Shreyas Iyer shares his dressing room story following India’s thrilling win in the second ODI against the West Indies. ‘Axar Patel finished off today with an outstanding knock,’ said Iyer.
The Indian team dominated the Caribbean side in two back-to-back games to win the ODI series, led by Shikhar Dhawan. While the team effort in Trinidad was impressive, all-rounder Axar Patel stole the show with his match-winning knock.
The first match was also a thriller. India winning on the final delivery after Mohammed Siraj defended 15 runs to help India take a 1-0 lead. Off the field, the situation was also tense in the second game. Moreover, Shreyas Iyer reveal after the victory that team India head coach Rahul Dravid was on the edge of his seat. As the game near its conclusion and kept sending messages to the players on the field.
“To be honest, it was enjoyable. “We were all sitting together, and Rahul (Dravid) sir was getting very tense; he consistently passing on the message.” Iyer said after India won the series with a game to spare in the second ODI.
“I think a lot of players showed really good emotions and were very calm and composed under pressure.” And, given how many games we’ve played recently, I believe we’ve seen all of these emotions. It was just another game for us. I think we did pretty well, especially Axar’s performance today. “It was a fantastic knock,” he added.

Sanju Samson demonstrated a high level of commitment: Shreyas Iyer
India achieved their highest successful chase in the West Indies by chasing down a target of 312 runs set by the hosts. After Dhawan was out early, it was Iyer and Sanju Samson who put on a fantastic 99-run stand for the fourth wicket to provide a solid foundation for the middle-order batters.
Iyer has been outstanding in the series so far, batting at No. 3 in the absence of Virat Kohli. He hit a half-century in the first ODI and followed it up with a 71-ball 63 in the second. Iyer’s composed knock, combined with a partnership with Samson, propelled India from 79/3 to 178/4.
“It was a critical collaboration.” We lost two wickets in a row. We were 60 for 3 (79/3), and we had to rebuild from there. Sanju entered the room with obvious purpose. I’d already started batting. I’d faced approximately 20 balls and was batting on 15. I knew what I was going to do, while Sanju faced a few balls before going after the spinners. He hit them for two sixes, and the momentum shifted suddenly in our favor. “From there, we built on the partnership and carried the momentum forward,” the prolific batter said of his partnership with Samson.
