I’ll try to play all formats for as long as I can: Jonny Bairstow. ‘I don’t see myself making a decision; I’ll go all out for as long as I can,’ Bairstow said.
Following Ben Stokes’ early retirement from one-day internationals, English batter Jonny Bairstow has pledged to continue playing all formats in international cricket. Bairstow, perhaps England’s most effective batter right now, has committed himself to the game, and he does not see himself making such a decision at the moment, as stated that he looks to play more and more.
Bairstow has been in touch recently. He went on to score multiple centuries for his side in the three-match Test series against New Zealand after a solid stint in the IPL 2022. England then faced India in a one-off Test, and Bairstow scored two centuries, one in each innings, to help England win.
“Naturally, there are difficulties. However, I intend to play all formats for as long as possible. There may come a time when you must make a decision for various reasons, but I don’t see myself making one in the near future. “I’m going to give it my all for as long as I can,” Bairstow told Sky Cricket.
I’m having a great time being a part of all three squads: Jonny Bairstow
Bairstow’s comments come at an interesting time, as England Test captain Ben Stokes stated in his farewell speech that he could no longer play all three formats with the same level of effort. Many were surprised given Stokes’ age, but the all-rounder had previously taken a mental health break. Bairstow, on the other hand, stated that he enjoys being a member of each squad.
“I’m having a great time being a part of all three squads.” They are all unique in their own way, and it is wonderful to be a part of each of them. It’s thrilling. “There’s a newness to each one; there are new faces and a new energy because it’s a new format,” Bairstow explained.
White-ball captain Jos Buttler has previously stated that he does not intend to return to the Test squad. Many people believe Buttler already has a lot on his plate between batting, wicketkeeping, and leading the white-ball teams. Bairstow’s comment is a welcome change for England fans who have been waiting a long time to see a full-strength England squad in all formats of the game.
