Former India batter Wasim Jaffer believes Ruturaj Gaikwad should make his ODI debut against the West Indies in the first game of a three-match series on Friday at Port of Spain in Trinidad. With captain Rohit Sharma resting and KL Rahul still recovering from an injury, it’s unclear who will bat alongside Dhawan at the top of the order. Jaffer believes Ruturaj deserves a chance to prove his talent after praising his performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored four centuries in five matches. The 44-year-old also stated that playing Ruturaj will maintain the left-right opening combo.

Wasim Jaffer Wants Ruturaj To Open With Shikhar Dhawan In West Indies ODIs

“Ruturaj should make his ODI debut and partner Shikhar in the WI series, in my opinion. Ruturaj, who won the Vijay Hazare Trophy with four tons in five innings, deserves to be considered. Also, the left-right combination remains “On the eve of the first ODI, Jaffer tweeted.

Gaikwad scored 603 runs in five innings at a stunning average of 150.75 during the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Gaikwad, on the other hand, is currently behind Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill in the pecking order.

While Gill has only scored 49 runs in three ODI innings, Ishan has scored 88 runs in the same number of innings, including a fifty.

In addition to Rohit and Rahul, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami have all been rested for the ODIs.

India will play a three-match T20I series against the West Indies, followed by a three-match ODI series.
