Umran Malik highlights his outstanding performance in IPL 2022 to Dale Steyn. Umran also revealed that Steyn inspired his chainsaw celebration.
Umran Malik has been on a tear in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The right-arm pacer is part of a small group of fast bowlers who can regularly hit 150 kmph. Because he has also taken wickets, several fans and experts want him to join the Indian team as soon as possible. Umran’s statistics are as follows: the Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer has 21 wickets in 13 games, including a five-wicket haul.
Malik delivered another sensational spell on Tuesday (May 17), taking a match-winning three-wicket haul against the Mumbai Indians. Following the conclusion of the game, he had an open discussion with senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Umran attributed his success to SRH’s fast bowling coach Dale Steyn, revealing that the former South African pacer constantly guides him.

“If I’m in the nets for three hours, he (Steyn) will stand behind me and guide me for three hours,” Umran explained. Umran said his pace comes naturally to him and that he wants to bowl as fast as he can. “Even when we were playing with the tennis ball, people didn’t want to bat against me because I was so quick,” said the speedster, who has bowled the fastest delivery of the season, 157 kmph.
Meanwhile, Umran revealed that Steyn inspired his chainsaw celebration as well. “He does that punch celebration after I take wickets in the nets; I did it one day and it just stuck with me,” the 22-year-old chuckled.
While Umran has had a fantastic season, the same cannot be said for SRH. The 2016 season champions are out of the playoff picture after losing seven of their first 13 games. Because their net run rate (-0.230) is low, they must win their final league-stage game against Punjab Kings by a large margin while hoping that the other match results go their way.
