Michael Vaughan questioned Rishabh Pant’s choice during Delhi Capitals’ four-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022.
Delhi Capitals cruised to a four-wicket triumph over Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022, their fourth win in eight games. As the Delhi Capitals cruised to victory, one player shone out once more. Kuldeep Yadav, the Delhi Capitals’ spinner, was instrumental in the team’s victory, taking four wickets for just 14 runs.
Surprisingly, despite his outstanding performance. Former England captain Michael Vaughan was perplexed by Kuldeep’s failure to bowl his complete quota of four overs.
Vaughan questioned the decision on Twitter, calling Rishabh Pant’s captaincy “abnormal.”
“@imkuldeep18 4-14 off 3!!!! Strange captaincy!!! Doesn’t complete his quota…!!!!” penned the former England cricketer.
Pant mentioned Kuldeep bowling three overs after the win over KKR.
“I thought we’d give him (Kuldeep) his final over from the other end,” the DC skipper explained. “But the ball continued becoming wet, and I also wanted to change the speed, so I called in the fast bowlers, but it didn’t work.”
The choice, however, did not come back to bite them, as the Delhi Capitals cruised to victory despite a minor hiccup. DC’s David Warner top-scored with a 26-ball 42, and Rovman Powell supplied the finishing touches with a 33-ball 16-ball 33.
“We were thinking (about the wobble) because we lost too many wickets in the middle, but we also thought if we took the game deep enough, we might win it,” Pant said of a stretch of play in which DC lost three wickets for just two runs.
DC moved up to sixth place in the rankings, tied on eight points with Punjab Kings, who are in seventh place due to a lower run rate.
It was KKR’s fifth consecutive loss, and they are now in severe danger of losing out on the playoffs after nine matches with only six points.
