West Indies defeated England by seven runs in the seventh match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup on Wednesday at the University Oval in Dunedin.
On Wednesday, the West Indies continued their strong start to the Women’s Cricket World Cup by defeating defending champions England for the second time. The West Indies, who stunned hosts New Zealand in the first game of the tournament. Defeated England by seven runs in a nail-biter at Dunedin’s University Oval.
England’s tailenders made a valiant attempt to chase down the West Indies’ 226-run target but fell just short , putting their title defense on the line. “They batted exceptionally well against us on a good wicket and played some brilliant shots,” England captain Heather Knight said.

England faces an uphill battle to finish in the top four of the eight-team tournament and defend their 2017 title after losing to Australia in their opening match.
The West Indies raced to 81 without loss after winning the toss and electing to bat before losing three wickets in a single over.
Spinner Sophie Ecclestone started the mini-collapse by dismissing Hayley Matthews for 45, then Deandra Dottin was run out. And Ecclestone struck again with the next ball.
Ecclestone kept the West Indies batters at bay until the middle of the innings, when Shemaine Campbelle and Chedean Nation launched a late charge.
Their 123-run partnership gave the West Indies a competitive total. But England would have been dominant if they hadn’t dropped a slew of chances as the catching woes that plagued the recent series against Australia reappeared.
West Indies allrounder Dottin had no catching problems, dismissing England opener Lauren Winfield-Hill for 12 with a spectacular diving effort.

Nat Scriver, who scored a century in England’s first-match loss to Australia, was out for two. Leaving Tammy Beaumont to rebuild the innings with 46 from 76 balls.

Her departure left England on 94 for five. But Sophia Dunkley and Danni Wyatt stepped up and scored 38 and 33 points, respectively, to keep England’s hopes alive.
