Mark Wood, who is expected to return to the side for the Boxing Day Test at the MCG, England’s head coach, Chris Silverwood, gave them a “kick up the bum” in a post-match debrief after their 275-run defeat at Adelaide Oval.
Ahead of a possible MCG recall, the fast bowler wants to defy injury “stigma.”
Joe Root slammed his seamers after the match, saying they “weren’t daring enough, at times, to push the ball up there and get them driving,” and Silverwood echoed his sentiments on Tuesday.

It was a conversation that was out of the ordinary for us. ‘Look, we’re down 2-0 now, and the same mistakes keep happening,’ it was a slap in the face.
It was an interesting discussion. We can always improve as a bowling unit; nevertheless, I believe that, as we discussed in the meeting, it is the batting unit’s huge collapses that are costing us Test matches.
