David Lloyd to replace Chris Cooke as Glamorgan’s club captain from the 2022 season

David Lloyd will take over as Glamorgan’s club captain, becoming the first Welshman to do so since Mark Wallace, from the 2022 season forward. Carlson will captain the Royal London Cup and lead the Championship and T20 teams.

With Kiran Carlson maintaining the captaincy for the Royal London Cup unless he is drafted in the Hundred.

Despite a great season with the bat, in which he scored four Championship hundreds, Cooke, 35, has stepped down from the job. “This has not been an easy decision,” he stated, “but I believe it is a perfect time, not just for myself, but also for the squad’s progress.”

“Throughout my time, I have worked to improve the club’s culture and performance. And I am quite proud of what we have accomplished. I hope I was able to assist in charting an exciting course for this bunch of players.”

Mark Wallace, who is also Glamorgan’s director of cricket said:

“Chris has done a tremendous job as captain over the past few years and has led the squad with a lot of skill and passion, but he has chosen that now is the right time to move away,”

Lloyd is the first man from North Wales to become club captain since Wilf Wooller in 1947. He is a product of Wales’ National Counties set-up and the Glamorgan academy.

Until Covid-19 prompted the cancellation of the Royal London Cup in 2020. He was set to captain the team, and Wallace regarded him as “the obvious choice.”

Mark Wallace said:

“Everyone in the locker room respects David, and the way he stood up to begin the batting demonstrated his leadership ability,”

“We believe he will thrive in the captaincy because he is very thoughtful. The methodical player with an exceptional cricket brain.”

“We also believe he’ll get along swimmingly with Kiran Carlson. Who takes over as vice-captain after demonstrating leadership ability and talent during the Royal London Cup victory.”

After a successful off-season in which Glamorgan signed Eddie Byrom, Sam Northeast, and James Harris. And with Australians Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser set to return as foreign players. Lloyd will be expected to spearhead a promotion campaign in the Championship.
