Mitchell Marsh hot streak continued as he hit his first T20 century as Perth Scorchers beat Hobart Hurricanes by 53 runs to stay the competition’s only unbeaten team. In his Scorchers debut, Tymal Mills went 3 for 23 as the Hurricanes were defeated by 53 runs.
Both teams welcomed back a number of key players, but it was the imperious Marsh who shone brightest, guiding the Scorchers to 5 for 182 after deciding to bat first at Blundstone Arena.
The Scorchers’ superb offense then kept the Hurricanes (1-2) out of the game, with Scorchers rookie Tymal Mills impressing as Perth jumped to early championship favorite status.
Mitchell Marsh makes a strong first impression in the new season
Cricket has the potential to bring people together. Colin Munro made a two-ball duck after tamely falling to ex-Scorchers quick Joel Paris. After blasting a stunning century against Adelaide Strikers, where he rode a charmed existence.
With a boundary off Scott Boland’s first delivery and a six onto the long-on sightscreen. Marsh showed no symptoms of rust and continued his T20 World Cup success. However, his momentum was halted as the Scorchers continued to lose wickets, falling to 4 for 74 in the 10th over.
Laurie Evans, a new immigrant who made little impact. In the first two matches but demonstrated his worth with a quickfire 40, finally backed him up. Boland’s full-length bowling was countered by the Englishman’s ability to get deep into the crease.
Marsh became only the fourth Scorchers player to hit a century, scoring 32 runs off his final nine balls

Marsh was frustrated because, despite his strong swings, he couldn’t quite get his timing perfect. That is, until the 19th over, when he hammered three sixes off spinner D’Arcy Short. And then added another six in the final over to complete his first-ever BBL ton.
The Hurricanes’ offense is hampered by Paris’ injury
The Hurricanes are expected to do great things, as seen by their away victory over the two-time champion Sydney Sixers. However, there have been concerns about an attack that was lacking Boland and speedster Riley Meredith.
Boland has returned from his trip to Australia. A task, but never really recovered from Marsh’s early attack and was hammered by Evans late in the game.
After in-form quick Paris exited the field during his second over with a groin injury. The Hurricanes faced an uphill battle.
They hung in there, thanks to Nathan Ellis’ heroics. While skipper Matthew Wade relied on spinners Sandeep Lamichhane, Tim David, and Short. Who held their own until Marsh’s late heroics.
The powerful batting lineup of the Hurricanes fails to deliver. Wade, like Munro, couldn’t repeat his blistering previous innings (93 vs Sixers). And fell to Jason Behrendorff in the first over. The Hurricanes fell to 2 for 7 on the season, forcing Ben McDermott to make his season debut after returning from injury.
He got off to a poor start and was fortunate to be dropped on 22 by Kurtis Patterson. Before finding his range and earning the Bash Boost point for the Hurricanes.
