Islamabad United Name Azhar Mahmood As Head Coach

Islamabad United has hired former Pakistan allrounder Azhar Mahmood as its head coach (PSL). For PSL 7, a former Pakistan allrounder will take over from Johan Botha. For the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League.

Mahmood will succeed Johan Botha as a coach, marking the fourth change in the franchise’s administration since the league’s inception in 2016. Deans Jones, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Botha were the previous coaches, while Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis served as directors.

Having won two championships in 2016 and 2018. They also hold the highest winning percentage in the history of the competition.

Mahmood, 46, formerly worked as a bowling coach for the Multan Sultans and the Karachi Kings. Between 2016 and 2019, he was the bowling coach for Pakistan’s men’s national team. Mahmood’s most recent coaching position was as an assistant bowling coach for England. During their series against Pakistan in August of last year.

Between 1997 and 2007, Mahmood represented Pakistan for ten years. His domestic career was extended until 2016. And he played in several leagues in England, India, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and the West Indies as a T20 specialist. In total, he took 258 wickets in 230 T20 matches.

“I was a member of Islamabad United’s PSL 1 title-winning team,” Mahmood remarked. “As my hometowns, the franchise and the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are very dear to me. United has always paved the way and offered a platform for young players. From Shadab to Asif to Wasim, who all began their careers here. It’s not only a fantastic place to develop local players, but it’s also a great place to develop coaches.

Team owner Ali Naqvi said of Mahmood’s signing:
