Mithali Raj: India Women have only one ODI series left before the World Cup, against New Zealand, but skipper Mithali Raj believes the team has enjoyed “excellent preparation” so far in 2021.
This year, India hosted South Africa for five One-Day Internationals before heading to England and Australia for three-match series apiece.
They lost all three series, but they had Australia’s No. 1 squad fight extremely hard for their 2-1 victory, which also snapped Australia’s 26-match winning streak in the third ODI.
Before the World Cup in March-April, India will play New Zealand in five one-day internationals.
Mithali Raj said:
“We are getting to play in New Zealand before World Cup which is also good,”

“We’ve played three of the finest teams since March, and it’s given us good preparation,” Raj said after a KFC-Indian Deaf Cricket Association agreement was announced in Delhi on Wednesday. “Players have played domestic cricket as well as the Women’s Big Bash League, so they’ve had plenty of game time, which is the most important thing.”
India, who had previously struggled to score 250 or more runs, did it twice in the Australia series, chasing down 265 in the last ODI.
“You strive to offer your best when you play against a quality squad in its own backyard,” Raj added. “Despite the fact that we lost the series, the matches were really tight. We scored 270 (274) and chased down 270-plus; if we can do that on a regular basis, we will be among the finest teams in the world.”

“You can’t identify one place because we bat as a unit,” she explained. “There have been times when the top order has failed and the lower orders have done admirably. It will assist if we try to post a good total as a team. If we concentrate on one aspect, such as middle order, it becomes too taxing for that slot.”
India finished second in the 2017 World Cup in England, despite the fact that few expected them to, but the stakes are bigger this time.
“At the time, there were not enough expectations,” Raj explained. “By 2021, players will have gained a lot of experience and exposure through T20 leagues.” We have a lot of young guys, but they’ve had enough experience. It’s just an issue of getting along as a group.
“Each match will be unique there.” It will be better for us if we can read our opponents quickly.”
