Virat Kohli, the current India Test, and ODI captain took a “pay cut” in his IPL wage for the “larger interest” of Royal Challengers Bangalore, according to former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel (RCB).
Kohli was the first player kept by RCB during the IPL retention on Tuesday, as expected

However, because RCB only kept three players, the most Kohli could be paid under IPL salary-cap rules is 15 crore, which is less than his previous IPL compensation of 17 crores.

Kohli, who has been the captain of RCB for the past nine IPL seasons, has opted to step down after this year’s competition. He made the decision just weeks after announcing his intention. To step down as India’s T20I captain following the World Cup.
Kohli is one of the rare players who has only ever played for one franchise since the IPL began. After a brilliant U19 World Cup in which Kohli led India to win. RCB selected him from the auction pool in the first event in 2008. And he has been a vital part of the set-up ever then.
Apart from Kohli, RCB also kept Australia’s Glenn Maxwell for 11 crores and India’s Mohammed Siraj for 7 crores.
In a statement, RCB said:
“Virat Kohli, who has been with the team since the beginning. Has been retained for a fee of INR 15 crores. Glenn Maxwell, who was signed by the squad last season. And has a price tag of INR 11 crores, is still with the Bold Brigade. Mohammed Siraj, who has been with the squad since 2018, has signed a contract extension with RCB worth INR 7 crores “
