Canterbury got off to the worst possible start courtesy of Nathan Smith superb catch, as they chased a difficult target of 178 for the win
Hamish Bennett’s delivery had nothing unique about it. It was, in fact, on the pads, begging to be punished. McClure flicked it off his pads and had good timing, but Smith, who was standing on the fine-leg boundary, had other plans.
He took a couple of rapid strides to his right and used his height to fist the ball into the air. Although his momentum carried him past the line, he had the athleticism and foresight to return inside and complete a spectacular catch. For a second-ball duck, McClure had to trek the great distance back.
As Canterbury struggled to recover from the early blow. Wellington continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals, and in the end. The 178-run goal proved too much for them, as they could only manage 150 for 9 in their 20 overs. The match was won by Wellington by 27 runs.
Nathan Smith, on the other hand, did not have the best of luck with the ball
He was Wellington’s most expensive bowler, conceding 40 runs in his full four-over quota. Smith pulled up a pair more wickets near the conclusion of Canterbury’s innings to cap off a successful day. The most impressive bowler was Michael Bracewell. He ended up with 3 for 22 figures.
After being invited to bat first. Wellington scored 177 for 7 thanks to a swashbuckling fifty by Finn Allen (57 off 30).
