In total, New Zealand has played 34 Tests in India, losing 16 and drawing 16 of them. All non-Asian Test-playing nations, their win-loss record of 0.125 is only better than Zimbabwe’s and Ireland’s zero. In reality, New Zealand has only drawn two Tests in India in the last decade, losing six others.
India, New Zealand has yet to win a Test series. Only two of their 11 series in India have resulted in a draw: in 1969 and 2003.
New Zealand has likewise struggled in Asian conditions, according to statistics. Since their first voyage to the continent in 1955, New Zealand has won only 15 of 84 Tests, losing the other 38. Their 0.394 win-loss record is only slightly better than Zimbabwe‘s 0.181.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead noted earlier this month that overcoming India in Tests at home is one of the sport’s most difficult tasks.
