ICC on India’s participation in Pakistan-hosted Champions Trophy in 2025

ICC head Greg Barclay Recently minted, concedes that it would be a “difficult problem” for India to visit Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy because of the two countries’ icy relations.

India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series almost a decade ago, and since then, the two cricketing giants have only met in ICC competitions. The most recent being the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates on October 24.

Eliciting conflicting sentiments from both parties, and with Pakistan hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy, it will be intriguing to watch if India travels to the country to compete in the multi-nation tournament.

He also stated that the cricket organization is not in charge of controlling “geopolitical factors,” but he expects that the sport would help to restore cricketing connections between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur commented on the situation, saying that the government and the home ministry will decide on India’s participation when the time comes.

“Many countries have declined to play in Pakistan in the past because of security concerns. As you are all aware, several players have been attacked while playing over there. And this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed “
