Pakistan beat Bangladesh by four wickets in the opening T20 international of their three-match series in Dhaka on Friday, recovering from a top-order collapse.
Bangladesh was bowled out for 127-7 after winning the toss and electing to bat first at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. For the visitors, fast bowler Hasan Ali took 3-22 and right-arm medium pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr 2-24, while Bangladesh’s Afif Hossain top-scored with 36 off 34 balls.

As Bangladesh placed Pakistan under strain at the start of their innings. Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Mohammad Rizwan for 11 runs and Taskin Ahmed dismissed Babar Azam for seven runs.
Both Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik were dismissed for ducks. The former plumb leg before, and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan displaying foresight to dismiss the latter.
Hasan pitched a dot ball back onto the stumps. When Malik was strolling outside his crease after conceding a dot ball. And replays revealed the veteran campaigner was late to ground his bat.
Fakhar Zaman and Khushdil Shah, though, got them back on track with a 56-run fifth-wicket stand. Both of them scored 34 runs.
Pakistan still needed 32 runs from 3.1 overs when Shah went. But Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz bowled some lusty blows late in the innings to see them home.
Khan hit the winning six to move them to 132-6 with four balls remaining. Leaving him undefeated on 21 runs from ten balls.
Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain, acknowledged as much:
“The middle-order deserves credit for the manner they demonstrated their abilities. Fakhar, Khushdil, Nawaz’s final words,”
Mahmudullah Riyad, Bangladesh’s captain, was confident in his decision to bat first.
On Saturday, the series’ second match will be played at the same venue.
