Rohit Sharma: Kohli will take a sabbatical after opting out of the three-match T20 series commencing November 17 in Jaipur, and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead the side in the first Test in Kanpur.
As a “mentally and physically fatigued” Team India gets down to workload management during the home assignment, Rohit Sharma, India’s newly-appointed T20 captain, will be rested from the two-match Test series against New Zealand, while Virat Kohli will miss the opening match.
Kohli will take a sabbatical after opting out of the three-match T20 series commencing November 17 in Jaipur, and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead the side in the first Test in Kanpur.
According to a reputable BCCI source, the squad was finalized during a meeting of the selection committee on Thursday, but no formal announcement has yet been made.
Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batsman, and the pace combination of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami will also miss both Tests, which will be contested in Kanpur and Mumbai, respectively.
After guiding the squad in the T20 series, Rohit Sharma will take a rest. The tests are set to begin in Kanpur on November 25.

Kohli will return to Mumbai for the second game on December 3. The Indian Test and One-Day International captain has spoken openly about bubble fatigue. And how it is affecting the players‘ mental health.
In Pant’s absence, Wriddhiman Saha will take over as the series‘ first goalie. With KS Bharath serving as the series’ second keeper.
Bharath, who is from Andhra Pradesh, has just played in the IPL this year. Having been signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
This year, he was one of five standby players for the home Test series against England.
The rest of the roster is made up of the usual suspects. With Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Mayank Agarwal anticipated making an appearance.

Paras Mhambrey will join the team as the new bowling coach. Succeeding Bharat Arun, whose term ended after India’s T20 World Cup campaign.
With the team’s final group stage match against Namibia, Arun and head coach Ravi Shastri’s tenure came to an end.
Mhambrey is friends with new head coach Rahul Dravid and was part of the support staff. During India’s second-string tour of Sri Lanka in July, where Dravid was the head coach.
After reapplying for the position, Vikram Rathour has been retaine as the batting coach. While T Dilip has been names the new fielding coach.
According to reports, Dravid wanted Abhay Sharma to be the fielding coach. But the Cricket Advisory Committee chose Dilip, who accompanied the Indian squad to Sri Lanka in July.
The 39-year-old was the Hyderabad team’s fielding coach and has previously worked with the India A side.
