At the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, the 23-year-old spinner surpassed the milestone when he bowled New Zealand opener, Martin Guptill, with a wrong’un in the ninth over of the Kiwi innings, even as the batter attempted a slog sweep. In his 289th T20 encounter, Rashid achieved the feat.
In T20 cricket, only three other bowlers have reached the 400-wicket mark. Dwayne Bravo became the first bowler to reach 500 T20 wickets, completing the mark in 364 games.
The West Indies all-rounder, who just announced his retirement from international cricket, has 553 wickets in 512 matches.
Imran Tahir (in 320 matches) and Sunil Narine (in 362 matches) were two of the bowlers who followed him to the milestone earlier this year.

Rashid Khan also holds the record for the most T20 wickets in a calendar year, with a total of 96 in 2018.
His economy rate of 6.34 is second only to Sunil Narine of the West Indies among bowlers who have played 200 T20 games.
Earlier in the tournament, during Afghanistan’s Super 12 encounter against Pakistan, Rashid became the fastest bowler to capture 100 wickets in T20 Internationals. Mohammad Hafeez, a veteran Pakistan all-rounder, was the batter who was removed on that day.
